Manit Sriwanichpoom
1961, Thailand

Born in 1961 in Thailand, Manit has been documenting political change, globalization, and the question of what Thailand was, is, and what it will become. Before focusing on his artistic practice, he established himself as a photojournalist, acclaimed for “capturing truth” with his camera. But as an artist, he has sought to go beyond such surface truths and surface aesthetics to better understand and reveal what he calls “emotional truth”. He is known for his socio-political criticism, particularly of Thai consumerism and capitalism. Together with his filmmaker wife, Ing K, they established Kathmandu Gallery, a leading photography gallery and bookshop in Bangkok. After some of their films were banned by the government, they opened their own cinema in 2018.
