About Sharifah Zuriah Aljeffri

Sharifah Zuriah Aljeffri (b. 1938, Malaysia) has the distinction of being the first Malay artist to have mastered Chinese ink painting, under the tutelage of artist-gallerist Anthony Sum. She became known for her series exploring the Bosnia-Herzegovina genocide in 1990 which incorporated Islamic calligraphy. Zuriah is known for her paintings depicting lotus and mountains. Zuriah is not only an artist but an activist, being the co-founder of Sisters In Islam, and a member of the Malaysian Nature Society.
