Yeoh Jin Leng (b.1929) was born in Perak, Ipoh. The artist received his training education at the Malayan Teachers Training College, Kirby, England in 1953 and was the first Malaysian Federal scholar of art who furthered his art studies at the Chelsea School of Art in London (1957-1961) and the London University’s Institute of Education (1962-1963). Upon returning to Malaysia, he went on to hold various positions in art education and organisations including Lecturer in Art Education at the Specialist Teachers’ Training Institute (1963-1968); founding member and Vice-President of the Malaysian Artists’ Association (1982-1984); Dean of Studies at the Malaysian Institute of Art (1985-1994). He garnered several awards during his career such as the Ahli Mangku Negara in 1972 and Kesatria Mangku Negara Malaysian Government award in 1994 for his services and contributions to the local art industry. In 1965, his first solo exhibition was held at the British Council, Kuala Lumpur.  In 1996, a retrospective exhibition of his works was held at the National Art Gallery Malaysia.
