Basoeki Abdullah (1915-1993, Indonesia) was an acclaimed Indonesian portraitist. Basoeki studied painting at the Royal Academy of Visual Arts in Den Haag, the Netherlands from 1935 - 1937.  His ability to paint flattering portraits quickly made him popular among the upper classes. However, Basoeki also produced many paintings of landscapes, flora and fauna, and motifs that were inspired by Javanese mythology and folklore. His art style puts him squarely in the realist tradition, favouring accurate and lifelike reproductions of subjects on canvas as opposed to artistic representation of the expressionist movement.
