Anthonie Chong's (b .1970, Malaysia) art is predominantly influenced by the 1980s. The 1980s were a period of increasing global capitalism, political upheaval, wealth discrepancies and unique music and fashion, characterised by hip hop and electronic pop music which had an impact on the generation of artists growing up during this decade. Anthonie won the prestigious Philip Morris Asean Art Award (Malaysia) in 1998 and has works in the National Art Gallery in Kuala Lumpur.
