Born in Solo, Central Java (1919 - 1996, Indonesia) to a family of batik makers, Dullah is considered one of Indonesia’s finest portrait painters. As a member of Seniman Indonesia Moeda (SIM, Young Indonesian Artists) he studied painting under S. Sudjojono. He was considered an excellent teacher and taught many students in the Sanggar Pejeng group which he established in 1974. Before his death in 1996, Dullah founded the Dullah Museum in Solo.
