Raphael Scott Ahbeng (b. 1939-2015, Bau, Sarawak, Malaysia) was an esteemed Bornean artist. At the age of 16, he was selected by the British Council to study arts in the United Kingdom - he completed an Art Specialist Teaching course at Bath Academy of Arts and a drama course in London in 1973. Before pursuing a full-time career as an artist, Raphael was a RTM broadcaster, and cartoonist and columnist for ‘Beng’s Sunday’ in the Sarawak Tribune in the 80s. He was awarded first prize in the Sarawak Shell Open art competition in 1959, 1982, and 1983, and third in the Natural Malaysia art competition in 1991. He also served as advisor to the Sarawak Artists Society (1999-2000).
