Against the blue and lilac sky, a group of workers carry baskets on their backs and trudge through a vast, green landscape - returning home after a day’s work. In the foreground, the Bidayuh artist deploys abstract strokes and fluid lines to resemble flowers, shrubs and tall grass. Warm and cool colours strike a harmonious balance in the painting. Raphael Scott Ahbeng is best known for his abstract renditions of natural landscapes, using oil and acrylic as his preferred mediums. A deep reverence for the landscape and people of his native Sarawak is evident in his work.
