Born in Banda, Indonesia, Nyoman Gunarsa (1944-2017, Indonesia) was a contemporary Indonesian artist whose work blends Balinese and Hindu folklore with expressionistic figurative forms. His works depict  traditional dancers, musicians, and religious figures imbued with strong emotions. He attended the Indonesia Academy of Fine Arts (ASRI) in Yogyakarta during the 1970s. His work has been met with critical acclaim, garnering awards such as the Pratisara Affandi Adi Karya Art Award in 1976.
