Talisman Dress

While living abroad, the artist received religious talismans and amulets from home, which slowly evolved into a creative outlet for her. The melancholia of receiving them, together with her desire to wear them, was something she felt she needed to explore. This exercise eventually led to her making various works of art inspired by them, eventually melding this with her love for textiles. Her cloth works weave many stories, from personal anecdotes to general opinions on contemporary politics of the time. She reminds audiences, however, that the works are never meant literally. A veteran of the theatre, she describes her cloth works as “a script with lots of ingredients.”
